Lake Mburo National Park

Uganda's zebra paradise — where acacia woodlands meet papyrus swamps in a tranquil safari setting.

Discover Lake Mburo's Gentle Beauty

Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda's smallest savanna park, covering just 370 square kilometers, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and accessibility. Located just 3.5 hours from Kampala, it's the perfect introduction to Uganda's wildlife or a peaceful finale to a longer safari.

The park is famous for its abundant zebras — the only place in Uganda to see them in the wild — along with impalas, elands, topis, and the elusive sitatunga antelope hiding in the papyrus swamps. The five lakes within the park attract hippos, crocodiles, and over 300 bird species.

Unlike Uganda's other national parks, Lake Mburo offers unique activities like horseback safaris, guided nature walks (safe for walking due to the absence of elephants and lions), and night game drives to spot nocturnal wildlife.

Best Time to Visit Lake Mburo

Lake Mburo is a year-round destination, but the best time is during the dry seasons: June to August and December to February. Animals gather around the lakes and remaining water sources, and roads are easily accessible.

The wet seasons (March-May and September-November) transform the park into a lush green paradise. It's the best time for bird watching as migratory species arrive, and the park receives fewer visitors.

Lake Mburo's small size and good road network make it enjoyable even during the wet season — a great option when other parks are muddy and difficult to access.
